Enrichment
At Central Sixth, our enrichment programme is delivered in two parts; a Core programme for everyone and Enrichment Plus, which enables students to select experiences to really pack out their CV and develop far beyond the confines of the academic curriculum.
Enrichment Core
The Core programme is compulsory and takes place at students’ base school on Friday during lesson 2, from 10.20am to 11.35am.
The aim is to build independence and participation. We hope it will help our sixth form to develop knowledge and interests beyond the curriculum and prepare them to be valued members of the community.
Students have an hour’s structured tutorial each week, based around British Values and preparing them for life in the wider world.
Year 12
Democracy and Law
Students have the right to have their voices heard. This module helps them to understand why our law-makers are elected and the reasons we need to follow the rules. They have the chance to explore party politics, discuss the laws that govern us and decide who they want to be representatives on the Student Council.
Community Action
This unit will help students understand their place as role models in the community. They get the chance to improve the school, or create a project to add value to the wider community. This could be focused on a range of areas, including the fabric of the school, sustainability, or charitable activities.
The Ambitious Curriculum
As they get older, it is important that youngsters extend their learning beyond the classroom. In this module we complete MOOCs, apply for summer schools, and explore transferable skills.
The Wider World
Broadening your horizons is important and students should look for experience beyond the classroom and their immediate vicinity. In this module they plan a visit to a place of cultural interest. We build independence and the ability to plan into this activity, whilst also keeping an eye on sustainability.
World of Work
As students get ready for life beyond school, it is important to experience workplaces and encounter employers and employees, as well as engaging with Further and Higher Education providers. In this module they organise work experience, investigate summer jobs and experiences, explore university open days and go out to recruitment fairs.
Cultural Capital
Building Cultural Capital helps to improve employment prospects as well enhancing life in general. During the last half term of Year 12, students go out on a work experience placement, complete their cultural visit, and find time to plan and deliver their contribution to the school’s Culture Day.
Year 13
Application
Most of our students go on to Higher Education. This module looks in detail at the UCAS process, as well as how to apply for degree apprenticeships and jobs too.
Study Skills
Knowing how to study and revise is a vital aspect of finding success in Level 3 courses – this module looks at how to do this. We also explore how looking after your body and mental well-being can also improve academic performance, exploring issues such as stress management and healthy sleep habits to ensure students are mentally and physically prepared for the rigours of the summer examination season.
Representing Myself
As we go out into the world of work, it is important that we know how best to represent ourselves. In this module we look at interview skills, budgeting, letter writing and how to dress for success.
Academic Intervention
After all students’ offers from university and apprenticeships are back, it’s time to knuckle down and make sure they are getting the grades. In this module they spend some time reflecting on their academic strengths and weakness and take stock before the final push for success.
Wellbeing
Wellbeing is important throughout your studies. The summer term of Year 13 is when we are most likely to forget this. This module is all about spending some time thinking about something other than exams.
Other programmes
PSHE
Students have at least one PSHE session every half term based around the topics from the PSHE national curriculum most relevant to young adults.
Aspire to HE and Unifrog
We work with Aspire to HE to provide information and opportunities to investigate higher education and everyone has an account with Unifrog, a platform to help compare every university course, every apprenticeship, and Further Education course – then apply successfully.
